Field-Applied Jacketing & Lagging

Jacketing is what makes insulation last. Without it, outdoor insulation absorbs moisture, loses performance, and promotes corrosion under insulation. Our crews install PVC, aluminum, and stainless steel jacketing systems that protect your investment for the life of the system.

In the insulation trade, lagging is the term for the outer protective covering applied over insulation — the same concept as jacketing. Whether the spec calls it lagging or jacketing, the function is the same: protect the insulation from weather, moisture, physical damage, and chemical exposure. Resource Mechanical Insulation installs every jacketing material to proper overlaps, sealant, and fastening standards that ensure long-term protection.

We serve automotive plants, pharmaceutical facilities, food processing plants, data centers, and commercial buildings throughout Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Jacketing repair on existing systems is also available — if your aluminum jacketing is damaged, pulled back, or allowing water intrusion, we diagnose the failure and restore weather protection to the affected run.

Why Resource Mechanical Insulation?

Local 25 Union Workforce

Every insulator on our crews is trained and certified through Local 25 of the Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers — the professional standard for the trade.

OSHA EMR 0.73

Our Experience Modification Rate of 0.73 ranks among the lowest in the insulation industry, reflecting a consistent commitment to job-site safety.

24 / 7 Emergency Response

Our dispatch line is staffed around the clock. When an insulation emergency hits — nights, weekends, or holidays — we mobilize immediately.

In-House Fabrication

Our Romulus shop fabricates custom pipe supports and removable blankets, cutting lead times from weeks to days and keeping your project on schedule.

What We Do

PVC Jacketing — Interior Systems

PVC pipe and fitting covers on chilled water, hot water, and HVAC piping in mechanical rooms and commercial buildings. Clean, moisture-resistant finish available in standard white or custom colors for facility color-coding.

Aluminum Jacketing — Outdoor & Exposed

Smooth, corrugated, and stucco-embossed (S.E.) aluminum jacketing with moisture barriers on exterior pipe racks, rooftop equipment, and exposed outdoor piping — stucco-embossed finish preferred in SE Michigan for its ability to mask field blemishes and provide long-lasting weather protection against Michigan winters and UV degradation.

Stainless Steel Jacketing — Corrosive Environments

Stainless steel jacketing for food processing, pharmaceutical, and coastal environments where chloride attack, chemical splash, and regular washdown would compromise aluminum or PVC systems.

VentureClad & FlexClad — Fittings & Irregular Shapes

Self-adhesive flexible jacketing products that provide weather-tight seals on elbows, tees, valves, and equipment transitions where traditional sheet metal is difficult to fit and seal correctly. Adhesive-backed products require surface temperatures above approximately 40°F for proper bonding — planned ahead on cold-weather installations.

RMI's jacketing work on Ford Motor Company's new World Headquarters campus in Dearborn showcases field-applied jacketing at scale — exterior pipe rack runs, exposed mechanical equipment, and precision PVC work in occupied office spaces, all completed on the demanding timeline of one of Michigan's most visible corporate projects.

Our Process

1

Site Assessment

We walk your facility or review mechanical drawings to fully understand the scope, access requirements, and any scheduling constraints.

2

Detailed Proposal

You receive a clear, itemized quote with material specifications, quantities, and a realistic installation timeline.

3

Installation

Our union-trained crew completes the work per spec, maintaining quality checkpoints and coordinating with other trades on active job sites.

4

Documentation & Follow-up

We provide as-built notes, material records, and warranty information. We remain available for questions and follow-on scope.
