Pipe Insulation
From steam and chilled water to process piping and cryogenic systems, our crews install and maintain pipe insulation that reduces energy loss, controls condensation, and protects personnel — across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Pipe insulation is the foundation of every mechanical insulation scope. Properly installed insulation on hot piping systems reduces energy waste and lowers surface temperatures to safe levels. On cold systems, sealed insulation with vapor barriers prevents the condensation that corrodes pipe walls and damages surrounding structure. Resource Mechanical Insulation provides both, for every pipe size, in every operating environment.
We work with the full range of insulation materials — fiberglass, mineral wool, calcium silicate, cellular glass, flexible elastomeric, aerogel, and phenolic foam — matching the material to the pipe temperature, environment, and specification. Whether your project calls for standard commercial pipe wrap or complex industrial jacketed systems, our experienced crews deliver.
Why Resource Mechanical Insulation?
Local 25 Union Workforce
Every insulator on our crews is trained and certified through Local 25 of the Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers — the professional standard for the trade.
OSHA EMR 0.73
Our Experience Modification Rate of 0.73 ranks among the lowest in the insulation industry, reflecting a consistent commitment to job-site safety.
24 / 7 Emergency Response
Our dispatch line is staffed around the clock. When an insulation emergency hits — nights, weekends, or holidays — we mobilize immediately.
In-House Fabrication
Our Romulus shop fabricates custom pipe supports and removable blankets, cutting lead times from weeks to days and keeping your project on schedule.
What We Do
Hot Piping — Steam, Condensate & Hot Water
Fiberglass, mineral wool, calcium silicate, and ceramic fiber insulation on steam lines, condensate return, and hot water systems. Reduces heat loss and surface temperatures to ASTM C1055 personnel-protection standards.
Cold Piping — Chilled Water & Refrigerant
Flexible elastomeric foam (ASTM C534) and fiberglass with sealed vapor-retarder jackets on chilled water, glycol, and refrigerant lines. Prevents condensation, corrosion, and moisture-related ceiling damage.
Process & Industrial Piping
Full-range materials for process piping in automotive, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and power generation environments — sized from 1/2-inch domestic lines to 36-inch industrial headers.
Specialty Applications
Cryogenic systems requiring cellular glass or aerogel, heat-trace piping with appropriate coverings, dual-temperature systems — fiberglass (or mineral wool) under a sealed vapor-retarder jacket sized for the cold cycle (flexible elastomeric is unsuitable here due to thermal-cycling fatigue), and freeze-protection insulation for exposed outdoor runs.
RMI maintains a year-round presence across Henry Ford Hospital's expanding Detroit campus, providing comprehensive pipe insulation services on hot and cold domestic water, steam/condensate, and chilled water systems across multiple buildings — a long-standing healthcare partnership that reflects our ability to deliver consistent quality on active, occupied facilities.
Our Process
Site Assessment
We walk your facility or review mechanical drawings to fully understand the scope, access requirements, and any scheduling constraints.
Detailed Proposal
You receive a clear, itemized quote with material specifications, quantities, and a realistic installation timeline.
Installation
Our union-trained crew completes the work per spec, maintaining quality checkpoints and coordinating with other trades on active job sites.
